Proceso editorial
Contributions—including research articles, short communications, book reviews, academic interviews and other formats defined in the editorial policy—are accepted on a continuous basis through the official online platform of the journal Anatolé. Estudios del Próximo Oriente Antiguo, in accordance with the current editorial guidelines and the publication schedule approved annually by the Editorial Board.
The journal guarantees an editorial process based on the principles of academic equality, impartiality and transparency. All manuscripts are evaluated exclusively on the basis of their scholarly quality, originality and disciplinary relevance, without consideration of institutional affiliation, academic career, nationality or any other personal characteristics of the authors.
The journal does not employ rejection rates as a normative criterion of its editorial process. Editorial decisions are based solely on the outcomes of the academic evaluation and on the journal’s established editorial policies, ensuring at all times the autonomy and integrity of the process.
Book reviews, academic interviews and dossier introductions are evaluated directly by the Editorial Board, according to their academic relevance, thematic coherence and suitability with respect to the aims of the journal.
Research articles and contributions submitted for dossiers or monographic sections are subject to the following editorial process:
1. PRELIMINARY EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT:
Each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial review conducted by the Editorial Direction, with the support of the Managing Editor, in order to verify:
-
The thematic relevance of the manuscript
-
Compliance with the journal’s basic editorial guidelines
-
Adherence to principles of originality and academic integrity
At this stage, the manuscript may be accepted for external review, returned to the author for formal revisions, or rejected with reasoned justification. All decisions are communicated in writing to the corresponding author.
2. EXTERNAL PEER REVIEW:
Manuscripts that pass the preliminary assessment are submitted to external academic evaluation under a double-blind peer review system, involving at least two subject specialists.
Reviewers do not have access to the authors’ identities and must declare the absence of academic, institutional or personal conflicts of interest.
Evaluation reports consider, among other criteria:
-
Originality of the work
-
Contribution to the field
-
Methodological soundness
-
Relevance and currency of sources and bibliography
-
Coherence of argumentation
-
Quality of academic writing
Reviewers’ recommendations may include rejection, acceptance with revisions, or acceptance. In cases of substantial divergence between reports, the Editorial Direction may request a third external review or issue a reasoned decision based on the available assessments.
All editorial decisions are communicated in writing to the authors. Where revisions are requested, the corresponding author receives a reasoned synthesis of the editorial and reviewers’ comments, together with the deadlines for submission of the revised version. The duration of the peer review process may vary depending on the nature of the manuscript and the availability of reviewers.
3. EDITORIAL REVISION AND PRODUCTION:
Once a manuscript is accepted, it enters the editorial revision phase, during which the editorial team verifies the appropriate incorporation of the requested changes. Where necessary, the manuscript may be returned to the author for further editorial adjustments.
Final acceptance occurs once the editorial team has approved the definitive version of the manuscript. At the authors’ request, the journal may issue a formal letter of acceptance in accordance with its internal procedures.
The manuscript then proceeds to the production phase, which includes copy-editing, layout and final preparation in accordance with the journal’s graphic standards. The typeset version is sent to the authors for final review prior to publication.
DOSSIERS.
The journal may publish dossiers or thematic sections, either by direct invitation from the Editorial Board or through public calls disseminated via the journal’s official communication channels.
Dossier proposals must include:
-
A title
-
An introductory text
-
A coherent set of article proposals by different authors
The academic and editorial suitability of the proposals is assessed by the Editorial Board, with possible consultation of the Scientific Advisory Board.
Once a dossier is approved, all articles included in it must undergo the same double-blind external peer review process as regular submissions. The dossier introduction is evaluated directly by the Editorial Board.
For a dossier to be published, a sufficient number of articles must be accepted following peer review, in order to ensure the thematic coherence and academic quality of the section. Otherwise, accepted articles may be published independently.
